Job 7:9-10
“As a cloud vanishes and is gone, so he who goes down to the grave does not return. He will never come to his house again. His place will know him no more.”
He will never feel the warmth of sunshine on his neck along with a cool breeze tickling the back of his knees on a summer morning. Never.
We took the leaf out of the table because we will never need to seat seven of us again. Audrey sits in his spot now next to me.
I do not want to go to new places. I do not want to take new family pictures. Strangers see four beautiful children, but I see the glaring hole of the one missing.
A desire is deep within to return to places that we went together: Crater Lake, Yellowstone, Dog Island, Two Rivers. I dream that he wandered off and we will find him there, but he will not be at any of those places. Elliot is gone.
“I dream that he wandered off and we will find him there…” Touching. And very realistic.
