From December 2019
Yesterday was my birthday, and it was a good day. To start the day I received many well wishes. Then, Anne took me out to lunch. Audrey made a chocolate cherry cake. Claudia gave me a French press, and I am having good coffee. As I said, I received birthday greetings from so many people, but Elliot’s birthday greeting was missing. The day also marks two months from the day he died.
There is a little snow on the ground, so it looks like the day of his graduation pictures. Last Friday, while our family was in Connecticut, a student at the university there died from suicide outside of his apartment. He was an engineering student too, and he had competed in robotics with his brother, just like my son.
In his picture, he looks like the kind of person you would want for a son, and he has kindness in his eyes.
Anne ordered orchids to send to the family today. My son had kindness in his eyes too. It is gone and the world will never get it back. I will never get to see it on my birthday again. I am going to put down this pen and go to the cemetery.
